Deep Space - CANDELS

Try looking 9 BILLION years back in time!  That's exactly what you'll see in this amazing image assembled for the CANDELS (The Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey) project.  Here you can spot, especially when ordered in the largest size, a large population of newly discovered young dwarf galaxies teeming with star formation.  Hubble's on-board instruments can spot these super-distant and super-ancient galaxies thanks to the young hot stars that emitted massive radiation, lighting up the surrounding oxygen gas like a neon bulb.  Of course we're talking about light that is billions of years old!  We wonder what these galaxies look like now at this very moment.  Do they even exist anymore?
