2017 Solar Eclipse

This unique composite of the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse was taken on the campus of Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, USA by Robert Vanderbei. The three larger images represent totality, lasting just one minute and 50 seconds. The top left image captures Bailey's Beads, which appear a few seconds before totality. The top center image represents peak totality. The top right captures breathtaking prominences, with plumes of plasma tracing along powerful magnetic fields. The bottom sequence show the eclipse from first to final (4th) contact, capturing the small sun spots that were unique to this eclipse.
